All my life I've been looking for
A place to lay my head
North, South, East and West
I guess I'll sleep when I'm dead
I've been up and down this highway for a place to call my own
There must be a nook or cranny I can feel at home
1.
I started in the East Coast, with its mighty ocean tides
Where the red earth hugs the cliffs... but I nearly drowned and died
I moved on to La Belle Province, Oh, vive la différence
Then my Bonhomme cheated, broke my heart, before I got ensconced
R/
2.
From the hot air over Ottawa, I drove down the 401
Toronto preened and strutted and promised I'd have fun
But the crowds and clamour got to me, I decided to leave town
For the rock and birch in Sudbury, where a snowmobile mowed me down
R/
3.
I greeted Lake Superior, Kenora had me in its spell
Then the plains of Manitoba looked a peaceful place to dwell
I froze under the snow and the ice when I got to Winnipeg
Then in the muggy summer heat, all those mosquitoes ate my leg
R/
4.
I hobbled to Saskatchewan, with its endless skies and wheat
But the prairie dogs and magpies were so loud I couldn't sleep
Alberta was incredible, its mountains were so tall
But a gun-totin' rodeo cowboy shot me through a bar-room wall
R/
5.
So off to B.C. I headed, with its lattes, weed and ocean
Where a yoga teacher nearly killed me with her home-made wellness potion
That leaves the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and the Yukon too
I better make it work up there, or I don't know what I'll do
